The Brennan Center for Justice Finds Decline in Transparent Political Spending

Data collected by the Brennan Center shows the relative increase in “Dark Money” and “Gray Money” in elections between 2006 and 2014. Dark Money is money spent in an attempt to influence an election where the donors are not public. Grey Money is where groups that don’t disclose their donors make pass-through contributions to entities that do, like super PACs. (definitions per the Campaign Legal Center)
