Pittsford’s Stephanie Townsend earns our support in her race for Town Board.
Trailblazers PAC, the nonpartisan pro-transparency organization founded by former State Senate candidate Leslie Danks Burke, today announced its first endorsement for November’s local elections, throwing its support behind Stephanie Townsend, a first-time candidate for Town Board in Pittsford, NY. Trailblazers PAC had previously issued two endorsements for March’s village elections with one of those candidates, Hal McCabe of Homer, winning a surprise upset for Mayor. Stephanie is also an alumni of the April 1st candidate and supporter training delivered by Trailblazers PAC in Henrietta, NY. To date, Trailblazers PAC has sponsored over a dozen trainings with 500 attendees across NY and PA.
Candidates must meet a four-part test to be eligible for Trailblazers PAC’s endorsement. They must be running at the County level or lower; be 100% transparent in their campaign finances, far beyond what is required by state law; raise a contribution from 1% of the voting households in the district or municipality they seek to represent; and commit to transparency in office once elected.
“Stephanie is an ideal example of the kind of regular folks who are stepping up to run for office this year, and we’re proud to endorse her,” said Danks Burke. “Ordinary citizens, concerned about the direction of our country, are realizing more and more that change needs to start at the local level. So they’re doing the hard work of knocking on doors, calling through lists and talking to their neighbors over coffee, at the market or on front porches to make that change happen.”
“I’m honored to receive Trailblazers PAC’s endorsement, and appreciative of the guidance that they provide,” said Townsend. “Their model makes you go out and really knock on doors to earn your neighbors’ support, and that gives you a much stronger perspective on how disconnected people feel from their government.
“Here in Pittsford, too many elections go uncontested, and that’s not good for anybody,” she continued. “I want a Town that helps seniors and young families; encourages clean, sustainable energy; supports small businesses; and smartly plans for our long term future. But now I know that the only way to make that happen is to get in the game, and Trailblazers PAC’s support will help me do exactly that,” said Townsend.
